View Full Version : Who you going to fire?

Ford isnt selling the team anytime soon. If you could fire just one guy who would it be, Matt Millions or Steve Bonaduce?

LionNation

Has to be Matt Millions, the record speaks for itself. Were on our 2nd head coach under his regime with the same results year after year. The record is atrocious, 17-50 is downright ugly. Especially when all teams are playing on a level field (salary cap).

All of the above! Also Joey, the o-line, Bryant, Dickhead Jauron, Ford jr., the person responsible for the no beer after the third quater rule, and the ref for calling BMW for pass int.

I will say Matt Millions.

If you dont like the system blame Millions. He wanted the WCO he brought in Marty to run it, and replaced him with Mooch he runs his conservative version of the WCO. These are Millions coaches. He hired Marty, Mooch, and Dick.

These are Millions players. If you dont think the players fit the system blame Millions. If you think the team lacks talent blame Millions. If you think he hasnt addressed certain postion like the QB or OL in an effective manner blame Millions.

Fire Millions and let the new GM decide whether or not to keep Mooch.. which my guess would be he wouldnt keep him. But you have to start at the top first.

and he also drove Barry out of the game, was the reason for he Iraq War, and caused the mars lander to crash - heck we should just cement his legs and drop him into the Detroit river - whipping's too good for him, hangings too good for him - he should be ripped into tiny little pieces and buried alive - I'll bet he was the one who shot the Pope 25 years ago too ! damn him, damn him all to hell !!

Seems like you guys have been waiting for a bad game so you can release all this Lion hatred - having fun yet ? can I join in too and be special ?
Correction.
Ford and Booby drove Barry out of the game.
Terrorists attacks, poor intellegence, deceptions and instigations by Saddam, and Bushs belief he had totake Saddam out to protect us was the reason for the Iraq war.
Nasa's mistakes caused the Mars lander to crash.

He didnt shoot the pope but he shoudl be held ACCOUNTABLE for the PERFORMANCE of the Lions and coaches under his management. Dont be afraid or shy Accountablity .. Embrace it.

We dont hate the Lions.. but we dont like the ownership, management, or the losing in this PARITY NFL.. its inexcusable the lack of ACCOUNTABILITY and level of complacancy and apathy within this organization and it starts with FORD and Millen is #2 and works it way down from there.

The Lions fans deserve better.. in this parity NFL it takes a real effort to suck as bad as they do. A high level of mismanagment and incompetence.

Gotta keep it real. And dont call fans haters who so easily accept the losing that is the Detroit Lions.

RussMan

aaaaaaah, but you didn't answer the real question in that silliness I posted

having fun yet ?

You say "losing " ? correction : lost : losing is plural and they only have 1 loss

"And dont call fans haters who so easily accept the losing that is the Detroit Lions"
something tells me you said that wrong and I won't hold it against you

My bad.. the statement should have been "And dont call fans haters who DONT so easily accept the losing that is the Detroit Lions."

I voted for Matt. If a Walmart store in Detroit was losing more money than profit, for 4 years in a row, than that GM would have been canned after 3 years MAX. This is his 5th fucking year.

This doesnt mean I dont think Marucci should get fired, because he should. His version of the WCO is old, outdated, and doesnt fool anybody.

You know what???? To WCF what is his biggest concern involving the Lions? That they win, not really. He is concerned with filling the seats, selling merchandise, advertising and the such. If you think about it, they never would sellout the seasons while at the Silverdome. Usually just sell enough Friday before a game to get it televised and usually some corporation did that. But in comes Matt and a brand new stadium and BOOM!!! The place is selling out even before the season starts. Granted it is a smaller place than the Silverdome. But in WCF eyes, Matt Millen is giving him what he wants. You would be stupid to think that he doesn't want a winner for his team. Oh course he does. That would mean more revenue for his company. But really Matt's tenure has been successful compared to the other GMs before him. But in the other way that most are not thinking. We as fans want wins and nothing else. WCF wants wins, but he also wants to make money. And I think Matt Millen has done that for him (at least make money).

"Granted it is a smaller place than the Silverdome" - That is a major flaw in your theory though

They went from selling 65,000 to 70,000 and not selling out games to selling 63,000 and selling out every game. So the actually number of tickets sold per game has dropped for the Lions from the Silverdome to Ford field. The city of Detroit gets all the parking fees as did the city of Pontiac. So the Ford's are making less money, right ?

Nope !

At the Silverdome the Lions didn't make any profits off concessions like they do now. Also the ticket prices have gone up from say $45 at the Silverdome to $64 at Ford Field (in my case) and they don't give away as much free stuff as they used to and don't have as many people on staff and no cheerleaders (sorry, baton twirlers) and no flying Lion and no fireworks or bands or pamphlets on the seats for people to make into airplanes and throw on the field so there is less clean up .......

So after all is said and done you are right - Millen has made a lot more money for Ford and that is why he was signed to a second five year term as GM. Has absolutely nothing to do with winning football games and everything to do with making money. Can't hold that against Ford - he is the owner and his concern is making a profti not winning football games - name any owner that is different and I will call you a dumass

You are being illogical

your statement was: "he is the owner and his concern is making a profti not winning football games -"

The two I listed ( and there are many more) ARE interested in making a profit yet they are also Greatly interested in winning also. I think we are on the same page here.

let me dumb it down...

you say...profit concern = no interest in winning

and I rightly/ logically point out...profit concern & interest in winning are compatible

Ray Crocket was on the Best Damn Sport Show not long ago. Since he had played for a respected organization the Broncos and had won there.. and also the sorry Lions.... they asked him flat out what is the problem in Detroit... why dont they win, especially since there has been some talent there.

He said the problem starts with Ford and permeates on down. He said there is not a REAL burning desire for FORD to win. Its not THE priority. Making money is.

He said while he was in Denver Winning was priority 1 from the owner all the way down to the laundry guy. He said its a totally different atmosphere.

Just like Barry said.

"But really Matt's tenure has been successful compared to the other GMs before him"

I beg to differ Golden. From Russ Thomas to Bobby Ross all the GM's before Millen had there great moments and some competitive teams in the NFL when the league didn't have the parity it has today. I actually didn't think it's possible to be as bad as Millen has in the NFL today. Every modern day expansion team had better seasons than Millen within a 5 year period. I think it's safe to say that Millen has not made one good move since he became GM 5 years ago for the exception of drafting SRogers and that was luck. Not only has Millen been the Lions worst GM but I think he might be the worst GM in NFL history.

OK, I don't give a shit anymore. My next doot neighbor is president of Ford Credit North America. He works with Bill Ford Jr. and knows the Ford family. He said it's common knowlege with the top Ford executives that the Lions are one of the families main incomes now a days and making a profit and maintaining a clean image are the only priorities for the family. I bet the Fords aren't even Lions fans!

Tech, open your eyes and re-read my post. I never said Millen was successful becasue of records, I am saying he is successful because he is making the organization more money than previous GMs before him. Maybe you don't understand that Millen's job is not to soley get players on the field. Or maybe you do think that, but you would be wrong.

I understand what you said Golden. Millen wasn't responsible for the new stadium and the Lions have had loyal fans for a long time. I don't understand what you think Millen did to make extra money for the Fords. Millen had an advantage over all the Lions other GM's because he has a brand new practice facility and stadium to attract players and fans were waiting in line to get season tickets before Millen was even hired. The only reason Millen got a new 5 year contract is because he is a "YES" man like Russ Thomas was. Ross wasn't a yes man and didn't last in Detroit to long.

goldenlions
09-24-2005, 09:46 AM
I think since Millen came in, the Lions organization is making more money than ever before and that is what Ford is impressed with.

But who knows like you said, the stadium and practice faciltities were already being built before Millen was a consideration. Maybe he just had good timing to come into an organization ready to explode in an economical standpoint. And maybe Ford doesn't get the connection. Maybe he thinks that Matt has made me money where other might have failed or gotten me less.

And to add that the Silverdome was larger and Ford Field is smaller. But FF sells out and Silverdome rarely did (until the last minute when some corporation would buy all the remaining tickets to get the game televised) and the mark up on ticket prices since the Silverdome more than makes up for the fact that FF has what 10,000 less seats.

Millen is doing a good job for just one person, the rest of us, not so much.

I prefer my nickname for him, though. Pooch.....as in "screwing the..."

Haha....I remember using it so frequently that it pissed off the people over at TLF and they entered "Pooch" into their little database of flagged words to correct....kinda like a censorship feature.

They were all Mariucci slappy's over there back then.

He was horrible. There's a reason he hasn't coached since.

I don't see anyone being fired this year or next. Ford isn't going anywhere unless he croaks. Ford is not Dan Snyder, and to be fair the current coach didn't have much to start with so needs more time.

If I was the GM than I would fire Mooch. I mean...he's just not as tough as I expected.
I'd probably let Jauron take the interim title until I did some serious coach searching and turned over every rock until I found someone unqualified who would be my puppet.

Some position coach because a coordinator would have a small clue.

And If I was able to do all of that then I would sit back and collect my money...until I had to do it again.

Jim Zorn = the new Steve Mariucci.

When you really look at it, the similarities in coaching style and decision-making are pretty striking.
