View Full Version : The Oldest Expansion Team Ever...

Nothing Earth shattering here, just a disgruntled fan taking a look at the gruesome, eye poking reality that awaits us. Here we are, another page has turned, another character killed off and another bloody chapter inked in the ever growing horror story that is the Lions Saga. It almost defies logic why this city cannot put together a winner but I won't go there. It's too depressing, besides we were suppose to win THIS year.

Another coach has been fired, his replacement's fate inevitable anyday now, like a guilltine awaiting the nod from the King and the studs we thought we had in the draft most or some have turned out to be red herrings. Charles Rogers oh how I envisioned great things from him by now. Joey? Well...BMw how I thought he would be a lock in the redzone, Cory Redding how good was he going to be? Backus a great O lineman who went downhill and well, the list goes on too many to list and too depressing, besides we were suppose to win this year.

Our future lies in the hands of a meat and potatoes type guy who can't seemingly be hungry anymore. His contract would make Ghandi change religions, but that's the situation and I won't go there it is too depressing, because we were suppose to win this year.

I pray to God that we will see a winner in the next few years, but seriously how much longer can we wait? And that's only if the actions taken over the next few months are well thought out and done for the right reasons, but now that we haven't won this year where does it leave us?

Another draft, another coach, another system to learn and another rebuilding process and another bunch of crucial decisions for this team. You can't expect us to wi nnext year can you?

We are an expansion team that has been in the league 70 or so years. When will it end? If you think a new coach can come in a put together a winner in one season, well I admire your optimism, but we were suppose to win this year. We are an expansion team from hell and I don't see much over the horizon for a few years...so now when are WE SUPPOSE to win?

Try when hell freezes over because I don't see the Fords selling the team until then, but I'm convinced that's what it'll take.

Lions have been in the shithouse since Ford got his fingers on in in '61and that's more than a coincidence in my opinion.

It looks to me like hell is freezing over for the Fords...Eliminating 35,000 jobs and closing up to 14 plants and still wont sell the Lions... :smt019

LOL...and why should they?. Unlike the car industry, in football you can have a lousy product and still make money.

We may never see a Superbowl win in our lifetime. Only 1 team in 32 can win the big one. And despite the fact that parity is alive and well in the NFL... the Lions are the exception to the rule.. they dont win, they dont win playoff games, they dont win SuperBowls.

The organization just doesnt know how to get the job done. Ford has his hands full right now trying to keep his family's auto company from going bust.... he doesnt have time to give his profitable football team his full attention..and even if he did he's doesnt know what to do.... his company is in shables and he has many obligations outside of the company as well.

I can't and won't believe that the Lions will never go to a SB in my lifetime. Regardless of who is running it.

So then what? Ford sells the team to Orlando? To Charlotte? Then what? The vagaries of selling this haunted franchise may just be the nudge to turn them into winners, but I say those who have suffered the longest get the most pats of the back from God. Our time will come if not in your lifetime in the lifetie of your grandkids. Fords need this gig, it affords the little Fords their college nd maids and fido dough pastires. If Ford sold this team they may start winning, but if he doesn't they may also.

"You don't know shit until you had suffering"

This team isn't worht shit right now, lets keep it and make a winner

** Hope all is well wherever you are Tripp, been a while. I heard insurance companies are going under from the NO disaster. Hopefull you screwed the fatback grosseros out of a little mula. Salu and God Bless.

Congrats Tripp on the baby man, thoughts and prayers with ya on that brother.

I'm not sure that the NFL would bar a move of the Lions out of Detroit. Arizona Cardinals are the oldest team in the league and they have been moved around like Jokeray at an army base.

I agree. If I am forced to watch this BS my entire life never to see the team succeed, then so be it, but that one moment when they do, that one magical season when everything clicks, will be one of the most bitter sweeet things in my entire life.

Yes, congrats Tripp and I hope things are well for you! It is great to have you back here again. Please update us with any new Viking fan beatings you take part in 8) . If I recall correctly, Tripp is a drummer... so Vic, we're getting closer to having a Redzone band! If only any of us lived within 5 hours of each other

I don't think the NFL will ever allow a team to be publically owned again. I wish it would happen, because that is one of the coolest things in sports, but it gives the league zero leverage to get new stadiums or move the team for profit. And yes, they would move Detroit, since they've moved the Browns already. How about we convince Mike Illitch to buy the Lions?? Probably not, because I don't think even he could afford it.

I wonder is Tripp's kid is a Lions fan yet, if so, may God have mercy on his little soul.

I told my kids to pick another team when they were old enough to know the difference. The curse stops here.

Yeah I agree. When I have kids I'll let them make up their own minds on what NFL team to cheer for, because God knows they won't be Lions fans, but football aside, my future will know or have five things before they are five that is if they want to be my kids...

1) A copy of On The Road by Jack Kerouac and if they don't like it they are not my children and military school is their future.

2) They will know Hunter S. Thompson's works or once again it is off to Grandmother's house to tend to her garden.

3) They will at least know who Ernie Harwell was and how he is 1000times better then Mario "not sure if I like the Tigers" Impemba.

4) They will know the difference between single malt scotch and the cheap shit.

5) And if I ever have kids, they will know their heritage (Maltese) and they will realize that they are their own dream and whatever they want they can achieve in this world.

That said, they better know some Jack Kerouac, Charles Bukowski, John Fante, Hunter S. Thompson, Frederick Exley, William S Burroughs, William Styron, Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Faulkner and all the old dead drunk wannabe dreamers of our lifetime.

Oh and they will know who Barry Sanders, Billy Sims and who the 1984 Tigers were.

Haha....I tried to make my son be a Lions fan at first, but over the last few years, I began thinking "what a shit-head thing to do to your kid". So, I let him choose his own team.

He flirted with the Vikings because he went through a phase where he liked purple. Then he was a Patriots fan because he knew enough about sports to know that winning was cool and because his grandfather is a Patriots fan.

Then, when he learned enough about the game and decided to settle in on a team, he decided that Michael Strahan was his favorite player and began following the Giants. That was previous to the '06 season. In '07 he discovered Shockey and Osi.

So, when it all came to pass, not only did my son get to see his team go from zero to hero, but he knew enough to rub it in my face that he's been a fan of his team for a tenth of the time that I've been a fan of my team and he's already gotten to enjoy everything that I've so longed to enjoy.

Little prick.

I'm so proud. LOL

Def,

Those old dead drunk wannabees were also some of the best writers and journalists of our lifetime but I think you know that. I say we all petition to get you a job with the Free Press and you bring back "Gonzo Journalism":occasion14:

What do you think

One thing to remember is even if Ford does sell the team the NFL has to approve the sale and most likely won't approve a move outside of Detroit. The Lions are one of the oldest franchises in the NFL so the NFL will not allow another Baltimore incident. I think Ford jr will do a better job of getting us a winner if the current staff doesn't last and Daddy hands the reins over.

WOW I started reading this and didn't even realize that it was 2 years old until it mentioned a contract so I looked at the date, however everything still applies.........so very sad this franchise is.....just sad!
